Who We Are

The Evolution of Serenity Village

In the spring of 1997, Christine Delke and Mercedes Pepe started a class based on the book, Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach.   Since then, we have held many classes, retreats and couples’ workshops, and we have positively influenced the lives of many participants.   On January 29, 1999, we received our non-profit organization status.

Serenity Village provides assistance to families and individuals in various ways that are outside the framework of a formal program.   These range from donating a vehicle or providing holiday gifts to a family in need, to mentoring programs, to counseling and ongoing support.   We empower, inform and support children and adults in being all they can be, making it possible for them to dream and to then realize those dreams.

Initially the primary focus of Serenity Village was to provide mentors to girls, ages 13 to 17. Since then our organization has evolved to include assistance to another segment of the community, “motel children”, also in great need of attention.   It is not widely known that over 3000 people live in approximately 43 low-income motels in the Orange County area alone, and nearly 2000 of those people are children.

Working with our mentor resources we have matched mentors with dozens of children from these low-income motel rooms in Orange County to teach these children new communication skills, build their confidence and give them life lessons about positive relationships.
